YouTube No Longer Supporting These iPhones And iPads

If you’re the owner of an older iPhone and you notice that you can no longer update to the latest version of the YouTube app, you can blame Google.

As of version 20.22.1, you’ll need to be running iOS 16 or later to update it.

That’s after YouTube’s decision to drop support for iOS 15 or older, leaving those unable to update to the newer versions of iOS out in the cold as reported by MacRumors.

That includes devices like the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus as well as the first-gen iPhone SE. Those who are still rocking an iPod touch 7 will also be left running an older version of YouTube, too.

It’s a similar story over on the iPad, with iPadOS 16 now required in order to run the latest version of the YouTube app. That means that the iPad mini 4 and iPad Air 2 are no longer supported. However, you can continue to use the YouTube website via Safari, although you will find that not all features of the YouTube app are offered.

This also means that any new features added to the YouTube app in the future will not be available on these older devices unless the capabilities are added to the web-based version, too.

Google has not yet confirmed why it took the decision to require iOS 16 or later for the YouTube app to be updated to its latest version.
