Earlier this week, Apple presented Liquid Glass at WWDC 2025. Liquid Glass UI elements are available on iOS, iPadOS, macOS, visionOS, tvOS, and watchOS and will officially launch in September alongside the new iPhones. I couldn’t wait, so I downloaded the latest developer preview betas on my iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and Apple TV.
However, I’ve mostly used Liquid Glass on my iPhone with iOS 26, but boy, it is interesting. Sometimes the glass effect is annoying and weird to look at. I find that sometimes it’s hard to read my notifications when I pull down the shade, and Quick Settings can look abysmal overlaid on top of the home screen. Apple did detail tools it added to help with legibility issues in Liquid Glass, but it’s frustrating that the base design is hard to read when the previous design worked fine.
Here are some other people complaining about Liquid Glass:

Good morning from iOS 26. ☀️
Does anyone know how I’m supposed to read my notifications with this new “Liquid Glass” design? pic.twitter.com/cVn7T9eS6H

This new Liquid glass design in iOS 26 looks like some cheap Android Launcher effect. 😭 pic.twitter.com/Ae7mvHs8Ur

I’m convinced that Liquid Glass is just a way for apple to make their UI so graphically intensive that we have to upgrade our phones more often to avoid constant lag.
like wtf is this shit pic.twitter.com/xCurQ2GXjq

3 – Weak Blur: The blur is just too weak to distinguish the UI elements from the background. This is much more noticeable on text or high-contrast backgrounds pic.twitter.com/gMtksRkkXf

But not everyone is complaining; some people like the new animations that come with Liquid Glass.
Let’s ignore those readability concerns for a second.

Liquid Glass isn’t horrible, and it actually has me looking at my iPhone again for the first time since December, when I wrote about the best phones of the year. However, I think that some elements could use some work.
