Bitwarden debuts Access Intelligence to strengthen credential security and phishing defense

Password, passkey and secrets management company Bitwarden Inc. today announced the launch of Access Intelligence, a new capability that allows enterprises to proactively defend against internal credential risks and external phishing threats.

The new service introduces two core functionalities. The first, Risk Insights, allows information technology teams to identify, prioritize and remediate at-risk credentials, while the second, Advanced Phishing Blocker, alerts and redirects users away from known phishing sites in real-time, using a continuously updated open-source blocklist of malicious domains.

The two-pronged approach is said by Bitwarden to deliver better protection for users as bad actors increasingly leverage artificial intelligence to craft more convincing phishing lures and evade detection.

Risk Insights provides IT administrators with centralized visibility into credential-related security issues, highlighting weak, reused or exposed passwords stored across key business applications. The feature prioritizes remediation efforts based on the sensitivity and importance of the affected applications and, in doing so, helps teams focus their resources where they matter most.

The feature addresses an ongoing gap found in enterprise security practices, where credential risks are often acknowledged but not proactively managed. A recent Business Insights Report from Bitwarden found that although 53% of IT managers want to address credential risks, only 33% of organizations currently take proactive steps. Access Intelligence fills the gap by providing actionable insights and real-time resolution prompts.

Access Intelligence also features built-in application visibility that allows teams to assess business impact when determining credential risk priorities, the idea being that more sensitive systems, such as those tied to customer data, financial operations, regulatory compliance and supply chains, are flagged for early intervention. The ability to prioritize allows organizations to secure their most critical workflows and minimize potential operational disruptions.

The remaining feature, Advanced Phishing Blocker, actively defends users by detecting and preventing access to phishing sites before credentials can be compromised. The tool relies on an open-source blocklist that is continuously updated to keep pace with emerging threats.

Bitwarden Access Intelligence is now available in limited preview, with broader availability expected later this year.
