Freedom Mobile has a flash sale on some of its plans for customers who bring their own phones.
The provider is offering a $4/mo ongoing credit on three plans until March 10. Per the fine print, the offer is available to customers who activate a new line or who migrate to an eligible plan, which means existing Freedom Mobile customers can take advantage of the deal.
Eligible plans include:
- $35/60GB 5G+ Canada/U.S./Mexico (regular $39).
- $45/80GB 5G+ Canada/U.S./Mexico (regular $49).
- $55/100GB 5G+ Canada/U.S./Mexico (regular $59).
Note that all of the above plans include a $5/mo ‘Digital Discount’ for setting up automatic payments. The plans also include unlimited talk and text, as well as data use, in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. Additionally, Freedom bundles extra ‘Roam Beyond’ data for use in over 100 locations beyond North America.
Freedom Mobile’s website says that customers will receive the $4/mo credit starting prior to their first month of service and will remain active as long as customers remain on eligible plans. Unfortunately, changing to an ineligible plan or completing a hardware upgrade will terminate the credit.
Despite the stipulations, this promo is good for anyone with a phone who is in the market for a cheaper plan. $35/60GB is a pretty solid deal already, but add in 5G data and North American roaming, and the value increases significantly. There aren’t many Canadian carriers that offer something like this.
Telus’ Public Mobile is the only wireless provider that directly matches Freedom’s plan with its own $35/60GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico deal. Fido, Koodo, and Virgin offer $39/60GB 4G plans but no bundled roaming.
And at the Big Three, prices are even higher for plans with North American roaming. Telus’ cheapest Canada/U.S./Mexico plan is $65/mo, Rogers’ is $70/mo, and Bell’s is $90/mo. Granted, these plans come with a lot more data, but why pay more for data you aren’t going to use? You can also find cheaper plans without roaming, but you’ll still pay more for those than you would for most of Freedom’s plans.
