Other than the Crucial T710 internal drive, Micron today announced its latest portable SSD, the Crucial X10. If you’re confused because the company had a Crucial X10 Pro that came out in late 2023, you’re not alone. Per Micron, this X10 is a different drive and, in a way, an “upgrade” to the Pro namesake.
Let’s find out more!

Crucial X10: Double everything about the Crucial X9
The new Crucial X10 is an intended upgrade to the Crucial X9, which is the consumer-grade version of the similarly specced X9 Pro. If you’re wondering about the differences between the Pro and non-Pro versions in Micron’s Crucial family of portable SSDs, here’s the gist:
The two are essentially the same in performance grade, but the Pro version is designed for a professional high-demand production environment, and the non-Pro is for casual needs. So, if you need a drive that can handle a constant stream of data even during long durations, such as video recording, the Pro version is the way to go. However, if you just need lots of space and are OK with a bit of fluctuation in performance, the non-Pro version offers a bigger bang for the buck.
That said, this new Crucial X10 doubles the raw specs of the Crucial X9 (and therefore the X9 Pro). Specifically, it has up to 8TB in capacities and features USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, which has twice the bandwidth at 20Gbps compared to the USB 3.2 Gen 2 of the X9 and X9 Pro.
In fact, on the performance front, the X10 is rated slightly higher than the X10 Pro, though in real-world performance, it might trail behind a bit during extended operation. The table below shows the detailed specs of the Crucial X10 in comparison to those of the X10 Pro.

And a slightly more rugged drive
As shown in the table above, the new Crucial X10 features IP65 for its ruggedness. That means the drive is dust-tight and is resistant to water jets. Micron says the drive can also survive drops from up to 9.8 feet (≈3 meters).
Other than that, it’s very similar to the X10 Pro in terms of raw hardware specs, with two new 6TB and 8TB capacities.
Availability and pricing
Micron says the new Crucial X10 portable SSD is available now, with the suggested retail prices ranging from $119.99 for the 1TB to $599.99 for the 8TB. The drive comes with a 3-year warranty and is preformatted with the exFAT file system to work right out of the box with all platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.
If you’re in the market for a fast and spacious mobile storage device, the Crucial X10 seems an excellent fit. So, get one today! Or check back to see how it performs in real-world testing.
