Deirdre Giblin named site lead for Datavant global R&D centre

The Galway native has more than 27 years of experience in the communications and software sectors.

Datavant, a US platform for the healthcare sector has announced that Galway woman Deirdre Giblin will be the VP of operations and site lead for its global R&D centre in Ireland. With more than 27 years of experience under her belt, Giblin has previously held a number of senior positions in the communications and software industries and is known for building up teams and tech offerings at scale.

Founded in 2017 Datavant employs more than 8,000 people and specialises in compliant healthcare data exchange.

In March of 2025 the company announced it would be building a Galway-based global R&D centre to be finished by 2027, with recruitment already underway for a number of engineering roles. With expertise in R&D, cloud transformation, SaaS and site operations, as well as a position on the board at Itag, the Innovation Technology AtlanTec Gateway, Giblin will lead the charge as Datavant continues to expand within Ireland.

Commenting on the news Datavant’s chief technology officer Matt Veil said, “We are delighted to welcome Deirdre to Datavant as our VP of operations and site lead for Datavant Ireland. Her deep expertise in R&D and building high-performing teams makes her a perfect fit as we set out to rapidly scale Datavant Ireland’s global R&D centre in Ireland.

“The fact that Deirdre is a Galway native fits perfectly with our view that this very metropolitan and welcoming city, with its dynamic tech scene, will play an important role in our ambitions for Datavant Ireland.”

Giblin also said she is honoured to take up the position as Datavant embarks upon a new venture, adding, “There’s a real sense of purpose in joining Datavant, a company that’s building a common platform for healthcare data, something that’s never been done before. I truly believe this work will lead to better healthcare outcomes across the US, Europe and globally and I’m proud to be part of that mission.

“Having spent the past number of years in global leadership roles with a communications technology company, it’s incredibly exciting to bring that experience home and apply it locally here in Galway. Being part of Datavant Ireland from the beginning is a fantastic opportunity.”
