Everything to expect from the massive tech show

We’re just a couple of days from the beginning of 2025 and the technology year always starts with a bang. CES 2025 is just around the corner, meaning a huge bounty of new tech from the giants of the industry and the soon-to-be impact players

CES – or the Consumer Electronics Show – is less two weeks away. Rumours are growing and some announcements are already being made from big time exhibitors.

Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about CES 2025, including when and where it’s taking place and what products we expect to be announced this year.

When is CES 2025?

CES 2025 is set to take place in Las Vegas from January 7-10 2025. However, major announcements begin a day earlier on January 6, with a slew of huge press conferences. Some companies, like LG for example, like to spend Christmas week announcing their announcements too!

CES is a trade-only event, meaning you need to be affiliated with the consumer technology industry to attend. However, Trusted Reviews will be on the floor again this year armed with media badges, meaning you can check back here for all the latest news and hands-on experiences from the team.

When are the major CES 2025 press conferences happening?

Typically, at CES, some of the biggest names exhibiting new tech will hold a grand press conference at the Las Vegas Convention Centre or a surrounding glam hotel, giving tech fans a preview of the year ahead and revealing products that’ll be showcased at the event.

Often these press conferences feature guest speakers from the world of TV, film and music. I remember seeing Kelly Clarkson one year! Here’s when the press conferences will take place and how to watch them.

What to expect from CES 2025

Over the last decade, the biggest takeaway from CES has been advancements in television sets – bigger, better, more AI – and we can expect loads of those in 2025 too.

However, the industry is shifting. Now the biggest excitement comes from the announcements made by chipmakers like AMD and Nvidia.

That’s largely due to the AI capabilities these new chips enable thanks to the sheer number of calculations they can make per second. That has far-reaching ramifications for the entire tech industry. For TVs, it might be picture upscaling and content previews, for gaming it’s improved ray-tracing and frame rates boosted by AI.

So expect loads of AI-focused announcements across the board, from hardware to software and from entertainment to home appliances. Perhaps some consumer-focused home robots will rise from the new AI awakening too?

Away from AI, there’ll be tons of quirkier announcements and we’ll be keeping our eyes on the show floor for the innovations from the smaller exhibitors looking to make their mark in Vegas.

However, here’s what we’re expecting from some of the big guns:

RDNA 4 GPUs from AMD

AMD’s January 6 press conference is will see the “next generation of innovation across gaming, AI PC, and commercial”, according to SVP and GM of Computing and Graphics Jack Huynh. That’s likely to mean the unveiling of new graphics chips under the RTX 8000 or RX 9000 naming convention.

Those new chips are likely to sit in the mid-range, bringing new capabilities in areas like ray-tracing for users on smaller budgets. However, you slice it, Nvidia is still likely to steal the headlines.

Loads more AI from Samsung

Samsung’s press conference is tag-lined “AI for All: Everyday, Everywhere”, which tells you all you need to know about the company’s plans for 2025. More generative AI in all of its products.

We’re expecting the usual crop of high end Samsung televisions at the event, so it’ll be interesting to see how AI is infusing the viewing experience.

Samsung also usually has some pretty cool products from its experimental C-Labs. Some never see the light of day, but it’s always intriguing to see the direction Samsung’s most innovative minds are exploring.

LG G and C series OLED TVs

LG is previewing its press conference with the term “Affectionate Intelligence” which is likely to be the way AI makes its way into Samsung’s 2025 product line-up.

LG usually refreshes its C-Series and G-Series OLED televisions at CES, and that’s unlikely to change this year. Indeed, two LG TVs have been spotted having undergone certification for 165Hz at 4K resolution in South Korea’s Institute of Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic Testing’s database (via FlatPanelsHD)

The C5 and G5 appear to be successors to LG’s C4 and G4 OLED TVs. Photos and information from the database suggest there will be no major design changes and that the brighter MLA OLED panel will still be exclusive to the G series.

LG has started early with the announcements this year and, on Christmas Eve, previewed a new indoor gardening lamp it says is “a personal horticultural solution combines an advanced system that encourages fast, healthy plant growth with a modern floor-standing lamp design.”

Nvidia RTX 5000 Series GPU

We got a great preview of the next-generation graphics chips during The Game Awards in December and Nvidia’s announcements are sure to be one of the biggest stories of CES 2025 this year.

There’s going to be a healthy (or unhealthy) infusion of AI and we’re also likely to see some announcements of major new hardware providers rocking new gaming rigs with the advanced GPUs.

The next generation of Android phones

Qualcomm announced its newest chipset – the Snapdragon 8 Elite – in October 2024. The flagship chipset underwent a branding refresh this year, bringing onboard the same Elite branding present on the Snapdragon X Elite laptop chipset.

We’re likely to see a handful of Android phones announced at CES that will make use of this latest chipset, though other companies may wait until MWC 2025. Some brands confirmed to be in attendance this year include Samsung, Asus and TCL, although Samsung will definitely wait until after CES to unveil its flagship Galaxy S25 range.
