  • Ex-DeGods CEO Rohun Vorahas lost 16 NFTs to attackers just days after exiting the project
  • The sale ignited a debate on whether the CEO was hacked or willingly sold the collectibles
  • Vora exited DeGods, citing the need for a new team to take the project into the future

Six days after departing from the DeGods NFT project, Rohun Vora has lost 16 DeGods NFTs to attackers who pocketed roughly $19,000 from their sale. The DeGods team said Vora’s wallet was hacked, with the ex-CEO revealing that the attackers gained access to his wallet through a compromised laptop. The incident’s timing has raised eyebrows on whether Vora was hacked or if he willingly sold the collectibles, with others suggesting that Frank was trying to cut ties with the project without spooking the market.

Vora Has “Zero Intentions to Sell”

Speaking to Decrypt, Vora stressed that he was hacked, noting that he has “zero intentions to sell any of [his] DeGods holdings.” The stolen assets included one of the rarest collectibles in the collection.

He added that he’s “honestly optimistic the [new] team will cook,” hence no need to liquidate his DeGods NFTs. He also disclosed that he’s working to update the security of his wallets and that he still has the project’s NFTs in his collection.

The NFT community, however, isn’t entirely convinced by Vora’s explanation. An X user, for example, questioned why the hacker only drained DeGods NFTs and left other assets in the wallet. Another one said the “timing [was] suspicious, and we’ve seen the excuse used before.”

“A Well-Experienced Guy” Hacked?

According to others in the space, the ex-DeGods CEO is “a well-experienced guy in this space,” adding that “it’s a strange coincidence” that his wallet was drained a few days after stepping down as the project’s CEO.

Vora’s predicament comes a year after the founder of the Milady Maker NFTs, Krishna Okhandiar, was hacked, leading to a loss of over $1 million in collectibles and other assets.

With the community unconvinced that Vora was hacked, it remains to be seen whether the controversy will impact the value of the DeGods NFTs.
