Rogers-owned Fido ended its Lunar New Year deals as promised and now has similar plans to Telus’ Koodo and Bell’s Virgin Plus, albeit more expensive.
Fido was offering 10GB of bonus data (and later, 13GB on one plan), bringing its two main plans up to 60GB and 88GB, respectively. Separately, Fido also had a $5/mo discount that, coupled with Fido’s $10 autopay discount, brought prices down to $40/mo and $50/mo.
Now, Fido has a $45/50GB plan and a $55/75GB plan, including the $10 autopay discount. The plans include 4G data capped at speeds of up to 150Mbps and unlimited Canada-wide calling and international texting (sent from Canada).
Those prices are $5/mo more than what Koodo and Virgin have right now, though the plans are otherwise very similar. Koodo, notably, still has bonus data on its $40 plan, offering 60GB total. Virgin, meanwhile, never added extra data for the Lunar New Year but also doesn’t do the autopay discount scheme, which is refreshing.
Further, Fido’s plan changes come as Freedom Mobile rolled out new plans. And while Freedom did increase prices slightly, it still has much better value with options like $39/60GB 5G+ Canada/U.S./Mexico. That’s already a better plan than Fido’s $45/60GB 4G offer for less money, and that’s before we talk about the extra 8GB of bonus data Freedom offers for Lunar New Year.
There’s also Public Mobile, which still has $35/50GB and $45/75GB 5G plans.
All this is to say, if you’re in the market for a new plan right now, Fido, Koodo and Virgin probably aren’t the way to go. You can check out Fido’s plans here or use our rate plan tool to find the best offer for you.
