The medtech company beat eight other teams to walk away as the winners of the CX Innovation Prize.
Versono Medical, a US and Ireland-based medtech company that specialises in endovascular devices and treatment, has been announced as the Dragons’ Den winner of the CX Innovation Prize at the international CX Symposium in London. The start-up beat eight other teams from around the world, all of whom are innovators in the vascular and endovascular space.
The Dragons’ Den-style event saw Versono Medical’s CEO Finbar Dolan give a presentation on the company’s plans for its FastWire Technology Platform, which uses proprietary ultrasonic technology to access previously complex and untreatable arterial blockages, thereby reducing risk of amputation and increasing success rates.
The Charing Cross (CX) Symposium at the ExcCeL in London, which takes place once every three years, brought together a number of the world’s expert leaders in the fields of vascular and endovascular disease.
The judging panel included Robert Mitchell, GM of global healthcare company Organon; Prof Frans Moll, vascular surgeon; Prof Tilo Kolbel, director of the German Aortic Centre in Hamburg; Jeffrey B Jump, founder of Casper-Medical; and Charles Taylor, the CEO of Veryan Medical.
Speaking about the team’s win, Dolan said, “It’s an honour to win the Dragons’ Den innovation prize at the CX Symposium in London. This is one of the prestigious events in the field of vascular and endovascular treatment and we are thrilled to be selected as the standout candidates in a highly competitive group of companies developing innovative technologies.”
Versono Medical expanded its facilities in Galway in late 2022. Earlier that year it was awarded a €7m grant from the Government’s Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (DTIF) to develop a non-invasive device to treat patients with chronic total occlusion, or complete coronary artery blockages.
Galway is quickly becoming a key player in the global medtech sector, with a number of domestic and multinational healthcare-based organisations operating in the city’s various business parks, for example Boston Scientific, Medtronic, Merit Medical and Deciphex.
Galway Biomedical, a developer and manufacturer of medical devices, recently announced it would be opening a new facility in the Ballybrit Business Park.
