If you check your Google Workspace account on iOS and Android, Gmail will now show a summary card for long email threads. The company introduced AI summaries last year when it rolled out Gemini features for Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive and Gmail.
Before today, you would need to tap ‘Summarize this email’ at the top of a message, showing a thread summary. Now, however, summaries will be at the top of the email content for messages where a summary will be helpful, like long email threads or messages with several replies. Gemini will summarize the key points from the email thread and any replies.
At the moment, the updates are only available in English. Additionally, emails that don’t show summary cards will support the ‘Summarize this email’ feature.
Users need to have smart and personalization smart features in Gmail, Chat and Meet, and smart features in Google Workspace turned on.
