Coming out of Take-Two Interactive’s third-quarter earnings report, the company says that it is confident Grand Theft Auto VI will be released in the fall.
The CEO of Take-Two clarified that there’s always a risk of slippage, and saying a game is ready can sometimes jinx it, but overall, he’s feeling good about the release. He knows that both internally and externally, people are very excited for the game to come out, but he didn’t share much else, according to an IGN report.
There have been reports around the gaming industry that other publishers are waiting for GTA:6 to reveal its launch date so they can reveal their own without overlapping too much with the next Rockstar hit. The CEO of EA said he’s even willing to delay the release of the next Battlefield game to the next fiscal year if it means staying clear of his competitor’s launch window. And it’s safe to assume the competitor he’s referencing is Rockstar.
With the release slated for the fall, the speculation now falls to what other forms of teasers we will get leading up to the game. The company released a single trailer on December 4, 2023, but then went silent for all of 2024. Traditionally, Rockstar releases a handful of trailers detailing its game and characters, so the lack of trailers has left many fans worried. With the release window pretty much nailed down, it’s expected that we’ll get more information on the game in the next few months.
In the same earnings report, Take-Two also mentioned that it plans to support the next Nintendo Switch since it doesn’t see Nintendo consoles as only for kids anymore. The company was able to get the GTA: Remastered Trilogy and the first Red Dead Redemption game on the first Switch so there is some speculation that perhaps GTA:V and Red Dead Redemption Two will make it to Nintendo’s upcoming handheld console.
