HP Series 7 Pro 734pm Review: Widescreen Business Conferencing

HP Series 7 Pro 734pm Review: Widescreen Business Conferencing

Ever since Covid, it appears that Zoom and Microsoft Team meetings have become the norm for many business users throughout the world. So it makes sense to have a monitor that does business conferencing better than your average monitor. Enter, the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm. This widescreen business conferencing monitor aims to make life easier for the business user while providing many of the perks of a monitor made for fun as well.

Let’s be clear. While I own a business and there are occasions where I need to use my monitor for business calls, I am in no way a corporate business professional. At least not in the same sense as someone who works for a major corporation and where there is a ladder of leadership far above them. I am lucky enough to work for myself and to be my own boss. So my testing of the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm is coming from an average user who isn’t constantly in need of business features but does use them occasionally. Let’s get into this review.

The Quick Take

HP Series 7 Pro 734pm review 3

The HP Series 7 Pro 734pm is a pricey business monitor, but it offers up a lot of what business users need. Connectivity, webcam, microphones, and excellent speakers are among the things this monitor gets right. I’d say the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm should be on the short list, if you’re looking for a business monitor with a robust feature set. Basic consumer users would be better served with a less expensive HP monitor that doesn’t have these features they most likely won’t use.

9.5/10

Nailed it

  • Excellent build quality and great looking design
  • Easy to setup and assemble with a unique looking stand
  • Great widescreen display
  • Excellent performance with a massive array of connectivity
  • Speakers that surprised me, prety great for a monitor

Needs work

  • It’s a pretty expensive monitor, but if your company is footing the bill, there you go.

The HP Series 7 Pro 734pm is a killer looking monitor. The stand is pretty unique and cool, this thing certainly will make a statement on your desk. With my current setup, I could not fit it on my desk, so I had to take over the dining room table for testing. Much to the dissatisfaction of my wife, oof.

The widescreen display is really nice, and its widescreen stance is spectacular for productivity. The speakers were outstanding and do best for voice content, like podcasts and web conferencing. They do fine for entertainment content too, but they are a bit thin for that experience.

The integrated popup webcam is fantastic, and I love that it can be tucked away while not in use, great for privacy concerns. The mics work well and callers on the other side could hear me clearly. Where this monitor really shines is in its connectivity. Many monitors are doing away with connectivity, but the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm brings the game.

Overall, the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm is a solid choice for a business conferencing monitor and should be a consideration when shopping for one of your own.

Design

HP Series 7 Pro 734pm review 4

The HP Series 7 Pro 734pm design is similar to other HP monitors and continues to look great. I especially like the stand that’s included. It has a neat looking design, and it does have a great up and down adjustment, great tilt adjustment, no portrait adjustment, and just okay side to side adjustment. The side to side adjustment needs to be better, but it’s not awful.

The back of the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm is curved and in a light gray color, with the beautiful HP logo at the center. There is a control at the bottom right for navigation and the I/O is nicely set along the left side, the power port is on the right along with a lock slot. I wish the power port were on the left with the rest of the I/O, but that’s just me. Here’s what to expect from the I/O on the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm:

HP Series 7 Pro 734pm
  • DisplayPort: 1 DisplayPortâ„¢ 1.4, 1 DisplayPortâ„¢ 1.4-out
  • HDMI Port: 1 HDMI 2.0
  • USB A: 5 USB Type-A 10Gbps signaling rate (1 charging with 7.5 W)
  • USB Type-C Data: 1 USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (15 W charging)
  • USB Type-C Video Input:
    • 1 Thunderboltâ„¢ 4 with USB Type-C® 40Gbps signaling rate (up to 100 W USB Power Delivery, DisplayPortâ„¢
    • 1.4); 1 USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (up to 65W USB Power Delivery, Alt Mode DisplayPortâ„¢ 1.4); 1
    • Thunderboltâ„¢ 4 Out for Daisy chain (15 W charging)
  • Ethernet Port: 1 RJ-45 (10/100/1000 Mbps)

This is a huge amount of connectivity and something business users are going to appreciate. This is easily one of the best features of the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm.

The front of the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm is, a display. The bezels aren’t super thin nor are they too large, they are just bezels. Along the top of the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm is the popup webcam and along the bottom there is a USB-C port, USB-A port, speakers, and the power button.

Overall, this is a good-looking monitor with a MASSIVE amount of connectivity options. I like it.

Setup/Assembly

HP Series 7 Pro 734pm review 6

Setting up the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm is pretty straightforward, but I will say, this baby is heavy at around 25lbs with the stand. Five pounds of that is the stand itself. I love how robust the entire package is, so I am not knocking the weight, but just be aware that it is heavier than some others. The widescreen also makes it a bit awkward to move around, and part of the reason I couldn’t use it on my desk is because of the widescreen. I like to use two monitors, but my monitors are not widescreen, so trying to get this on my desk with my other 32″ display, was not possible. But setting it up and putting it together was a breeze, and I love the look of this stand.

Display/Performance/Webcam

The HP Series 7 Pro 734pm is, first and foremost, a business conferencing monitor. If you’re looking for an entertainment-focused monitor, then find something else. This really isn’t made for gaming and content consumption, but it can be used for that, it’s just not going to be as nice as other options for those applications.

The HP Series 7 Pro 734pm display does what it’s made to do, provides a great experience for business users who are consistently in meetings and need productivity and connectivity features. The HP Series 7 Pro 734pm display is an LCD WQHD (3440 x 1440) with 400 nits and a 2000:1 contrast ratio.

HP Series 7 Pro 734pm review 7

It’s honestly, a nice-looking display and fit for the tasks that it was built for. I could have used a bit more brightness but, the 400 nit output should be more than enough for most. I am just a brightness snob. The widescreen is great for productivity, but I admit, I have been liking non-widescreen displays lately. I prefer the vertical space. But, this is a great display for multiple windows.

You can control everything from the button/joypad on the back of the display, but you can also take advantage of HP Display Center and control everything from that app if you wish.

HP Display Center is an application that was designed for users to customize their HP monitor settings for enhanced productivity and visual comfort, supporting both Windows and macOS. It allows easy tweaking of brightness, contrast, sharpness, and color balance through presets or manual RGB adjustments. Additionally, it offers control over input sources, screen resolution, desktop layouts, and tilt settings, while providing access to advanced options like energy-saving modes and firmware updates. When paired with the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm, it lets you fine-tune your setup without touching the monitor’s buttons.

As for the webcam, this is branded with HP’s polystudio branding, and that means quality. Of course, since this is a conferencing monitor, it should have a quality webcam. This one is outstanding, and you can also take advantage of Windows CoPilot AI features (if you are connected to a CoPilot PC) like blurred backgrounds and other features.

Overall, the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm is a strong performer for what its intended use is, business conferencing and productivity. If you’re looking for this monitor to serve you in all aspects of life beyond business conferencing, such as gaming and movie watching, this really isn’t going to scratch those itches. Assuming the itches are strong. You can certainly enjoy gaming and entertainment, but don’t hold your performance expectations to this monitor, as its goal is business-focused and not entertainment focused.

Sound/Speakers

The speakers on the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm aren’t going to win any home theater awards, as well they shouldn’t. I know some reviewers will probably slam the speakers for their thinness and lack of bottom end, which would be a correct observation. But given that this monitor is made for business conferencing and not for entertainment. I think it’s unfair to judge them harshly on how they perform beyond the intended use case.

For a business use case, where the user is primarily using the sound from this monitor to listen to meetings and the occasional podcast or anything with mainly voice, these speakers are more than acceptable. If you’re looking to get a banger entertainment experience from these speakers, well, you will be disappointed.

But again, this is a business conferencing monitor and its primary goal is to deliver the experience that business users and enterprise companies require. Part of that requirement is good performance of the speakers when it comes to dialog, and I think these speakers deliver on that.

Overall, if you’re needing speakers for entertainment purposes, you should invest in some desktop speakers. The built-in speakers will do very well for what this monitor is made for, conferencing and spoken word.

Price/Value

It’s important to understand that this is primarily a business conferencing monitor and that business/enterprise products are generally pricey. If you’re a regular consumer who is looking at this monitor, you might look elsewhere if the price is too high for you. For business users, I think this monitor is competitively priced, and I do think the value is here with the connectivity and performance the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm provides.

Wrap Up

The HP Series 7 Pro 734pm is a killer looking monitor. The stand is pretty unique and cool, this thing certainly will make a statement on your desk. With my current setup, I could not fit it on my desk, so I had to take over the dining room table for testing. Much to the dissatisfaction of my wife, oof.

The widescreen display is really nice, and its widescreen stance is spectacular for productivity. The speakers were outstanding and do best for voice content, like podcasts and web conferencing. They do fine for entertainment content too, but they are a bit thin for that experience.

Overall, the HP Series 7 Pro 734pm is a solid choice for a business conferencing monitor and should be a consideration when shopping for one of your own.
