At around a half-mile long, the South Lake Tahoe, Nevada, cluster of casinos along the lakefront does not exactly rival the strip.
But as a Nevada resident, I can say that the location is much more scenic than Las Vegas, and there are so many other draws.
Lake Tahoe, for starters.
Mark Twain described the cobalt blue lake this way: “I thought it must surely be the fairest picture the whole earth affords.” He wasn’t exaggerating.

Then there is the boating, hiking, golf, mountain biking, and the world-class skiing. It’s an outdoor lover’s paradise.
Still, plenty of people come for the indoor activities, too. There are casinos with names familiar to anyone who frequents Las Vegas: Harrah’s, Bally’s, the Golden Nugget. And now one of the most well-known casino brands in the world is staking a claim: Caesars.
Caesars Entertainment is helping transform the South Lake Tahoe area
Over the last couple of years, the South Lake Tahoe strip has transformed from a relatively sleepy constellation of also-ran casino hotels to a vibrant entertainment center.
An outdoor amphitheater hosts a summer event series starting in June (when all the snow is definitely gone). This summer’s lineup features acts ranging from Old Dominion and Kane Brown to Rod Stewart, Hozier, and the Dave Matthews Band.
Just down the road, the new Tahoe Blue Event Center is a 5,500 capacity venue that hosts sporting events like hockey, curling comedy, car shows, and concerts.
Every summer at the lakeside Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, there’s a major celebrity golf tournament — these days it’s the American Century Championship — where the likes of Steph Curry (he won in 2023), Charles Barkley, Marcus Allen, and Travis Kelce team up with pro golfers to play for charity.

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has had a “Hell’s Kitchen” location on the main drag for a few years, and now so does Lisa Vanderpump. Along with Ramsay’s joint, Vanderpump’s Wolf by Vanderpump is in the Harveys Lake Tahoe Casino, which has a new name as of July 1: Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe.
Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe Hotel & Casino
Caesars just announced it will transform the Harveys Lake Tahoe property into the Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe.
The Lake Tahoe hotel is the second Caesar’s Republic to open in the past two years. The first was Caesars Republic in Scottsdale, Arizona.
“Lake Tahoe is a stunning destination, and we’re elated to bring a new world-class resort worthy of its allure to the lakefront,” President and Chief Operating Officer of Caesars Entertainment Anthony Carano, said in a statement.
The Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe is undergoing a $160-million major renovation that will continue for the rest of the year, with work pausing for the busy summer months.
The updates will include renovations to the casino floor and hotel lobby, and all of the rooms in the Remus Tower (formerly the Mountain Tower). Rooms in the Romulus Tower (formerly the Tahoe Tower) were remodeled in 2020, but will get a refresh.

Across the street from the Caesars Republic is Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, part of the Caesars Entertainment group; the two properties are connected underground. Harrah’s is also undergoing improvements, including renovating the resort’s iconic Summit Suites.
“With its bold new look and modern energy, Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe will set the stage for a new era of luxury in the region, and we know our guests will be blown away by this tremendous transformation,” Carano added.
The entire project should be complete in mid-2026.
