A new AI browser from OpenAI is set to launch soon, as per Reuters.
OpenAI will be introducing a new AI-powered web browser in the coming weeks. Reuters said that the browser is ‘close to launch’, which means a public release could be close. It’s believed that access will be the same as Google Chrome, and the software will have artificial intelligence as the engine behind it. SearchGPT is an existing app that people could use, and the company naturally added it to a browser as the next step.
Functionality will be slightly different from a web browser- interactions are handled via a ChatGPT interface rather than clicking on websites to get the answer they need. LLM agents could also be incorporated to complete tasks with the user’s direction. OpenAI offered to buy Chrome as part of an antitrust solution, but the plan didn’t come through. The exact launch date of the OpenAI browser remains unclear.
