Pythagora tries to transform vibe coding with specialized AI agent teams

“Vibe coding” startup Pythagora is looking to take artificial intelligence-powered software development to the next level with the launch of its platform today, saying it will help anyone – including noncoders – to develop full-stack applications with nothing more than a series of prompts.

The company says its platform is built for both developers and nontechnical users, and unlike similar generative AI coding tools, unifies both front- and back-end development with comprehensive debugging features to bring the entire app creation experience into a single platform.

Pythagora, which is available now with a free tier and paid plans for professional and enterprise users, can be thought of as an “AI teammate” that lives inside software development tools such as VS Code and Cursor. It consists of a team of 14 specialized AI agents that can automate various coding-related tasks without supervision, taking care of everything from planning and writing code to testing, debugging and deployment.

The startup wants to make software development an entirely conversational experience, where users get started with a straightforward prompt that describes the kind of app they want to build. But unlike other tools that jump straight into code after the first prompt, it takes a more considered approach by first creating a specification and task list for each app.

Once that’s ready, Pythagora’s team of AI agents will get to work, with one writing the front-end code, one taking care of the back end, and others for connecting with the necessary application programming interfaces, handling the databases, and so on. There’s even a specialized agent that will debug all of the code after it’s written, using third-party tools such as breakpoints and debugging loops, the company said.

Pythagora essentially supercharges vibe coding, entirely eliminating the need to actually code. With vibe coding, programmers enter natural language prompts into an AI model, which then generates the code based on those descriptions. The programmer then checks that each line works as it should, and makes adjustments as necessary. But Pythagora claims its users won’t have to do that, because its agents take care of everything.

The AI agents are powered by large language models from companies including Anthropic PBC and OpenAI. The startup explains that it chooses the most appropriate model for each AI agent.

According to co-founder and Chief Executive Zvonimir Sabljic, his company is the first to provide all of these AI coding agents within a single platform, aimed at everyone from experienced vibe coders to first-time app creators.

“Interest in vibe coding is soaring, but the current generation of tools just isn’t delivering,” Sabljic said, noting that the quality of AI-generated code often leaves a lot to be desired. “Too many AI builders stop at the front end, or generate code that breaks the moment it hits real-world complexity.”

According to Sabljic, the problem with vibe coding is that existing platforms simply provide building blocks, as opposed to the “end-to-end blueprint” that’s provided by Pythagora. He explained that the tool is designed to be less like a coding assistant and more like a co-developer. What that means is it does more than just create the code – it also explains why the code is written as it is, and can walk users through any changes it has made. But users can still intervene and edit the code as they see fit, if they decide it’s necessary to do so.

The end result of this approach is “complete applications” based on a proper architecture and layered logic, the startup says.

Sabljic added that security remains a top priority for Pythagora, so the job of securing vibe coded applications is never left to the AI. He explained that though codebase management and debugging can be handled by AI models, companies should never let AI manage the overall security of their applications.

“Vibe coding shouldn’t mean cutting corners,” he pointed out. “It should mean working with flow, without friction, but still ending up with something secure, real and impactful.”
